Kado - Victorian nursing chair
Traditionally reupholstered Victorian nursing chair. Circa 1885.
Researched to be most likely by C & R Light, London based furniture makers, suppliers, and exporters of furniture, 1855-1925.
Stripped back to frame, cleaned whilst retaining it’s patina, before gold leaf has been sparsely applied then finished with two layers of beeswax.
Using traditional upholstery methods and materials the seat and inner back has been finished in “Kado” fabric by Blackpop UK. Although a design inspired by the world of gaming, with a hint of the iconic Space Invaders, the dark tone of its palette evokes Victorian parlours. The outer back is finished with “Alchemy” by Bute Fabrics. Both fabulous British suppliers with great ranges that I love working with as an upholsterer.
